  11. Welcome to the PsL December 1993 CD. This month's CD contains over 725
  12. programs received by PsL in the last 30 days. In addition, this month
  13. marks the start of our adding an entire section from PsL's disk catalog
  14. to the CD. This month we have added over 2000 files from the Programming
  15. sections for Windows and for DOS. To access those files, change to the
  16. \PRGMMING directory and type README. The following information applies
  17. only to the new programs for the month.

  20. 1. License & Warranty:

  22. Run PSL_NEWS to read the CD-ROM usage license and warranty.

  25. 2. PsL News Files:
  26.  
  27. The files PSL_NEWS.0 thru *.9 are the text of the current PsL News. These
  28. files are in the PSL_NEWS directory and are read by PSL_NEWS.EXE. They are
  29. also in the file PSL_9311.ZIP in the \DOS\ELEC_PUB directory.

  32. 3. File Format:
  33.  
  34. All programs are in ZIP format. Some very large programs have also been
  35. installed on the CD so that individual users of the CD (as opposed to BBS
  36. users) can more easily try them out without having to go through a long,
  37. disk-space eating installation.

  39. The "preinstalled files" directories do not have FILES.BBS files, as they are
  40. not intended for downloading (because the same files are in ZIP format in
  41. other directories).

  43. All of the 725+ new ZIPs have FILE_ID.DIZ files for easier BBS use; however,
  44. due to time constraints in trying to move large sections of PsL's disk-based
  45. library from floppies to the CD on a monthly basis, some of those programs are
  46. in self-extracting archive format rather than in ZIP format and many ZIPs do
  47. not have FILE_ID.DIZ files. There are FILES.BBS files in each directory.

  50. 4. Here is the directory structure of this CD:

  87. Due to their large size, some programs/files have been preinstalled on the
  88. CD-ROM for your convenience and to save your hard disk space. These files
  89. are also available in ZIP format in the appropriate directory.

  99. 5. FILES.BBS files:
  100.  
  101. For BBS use, we have added FILES.BBS files listing the contents of each ZIP
  102. file directory. We have been told a dozen different formats to use, but the
  103. format we used was the one most common to the various formats mentioned:

  109. Each directory has a FILES.BBS file in it. There is also a FILES.BBS file
  110. in the root directory for all the new/updated programs for the month.

  113. 6. The \SCREENS Directory
  114.  
  115. The Screens directory contains screen shots of some programs on this CD.
  116. For information about how to see the screen shots while reading PSL_NEWS,
  117. see TOGETHER.DOC in the SCREENS directory. (TOGETHER is not required for
  118. viewing screens with PSL_WIN.)

  121. 7. Reviews Files
  122.  
  123. In the REVIEWS directory are the reviews of the more than 8000 programs in
  124. PsL's disk-based collection. (These programs are NOT all on this CD.)

  126. The files RVW_??.ZIP in REVIEWS\RVW_ZIP are ZIP files of the Reviews by
  127. category (with ?? being a two-letter category code).

  146. The RUNTIMES directory contain run-time files required by some other programs.

  149. 9. YOU Make This CD.

  151. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated. We are striving to make this
  152. the ideal CD for sysops and vendors, as well as for individual and users. We
  153. will implement every possibly suggestion that will still allow us to produce
  154. the CD in a timely manner.

  171. Now press ESC and the PSL_NEWS.EXE program will run.
  172.     
  173. Once the program is running, you can press F1 for more instructions,
  174. although the use of the program should be pretty obvious and simple.

  176. In brief, you select a category, read about programs, and press I to
  177. install one. The installation will leave you at the DOS prompt. At
  178. that point, change to the drive and directory you specified during the
  179. installation.

  181. PsL's installation simply un-ZIPs the files onto your hard disk.
  182. Some programs may require you to perform a further installation.
  183. After the files are put on your hard disk. Look for files like INSTALL 
  184. or files with README in the name or with extensions of .DOC or .TXT.
  185. These files can be read with the VIEW program from the CD. If your CD
  186. is drive D:, for example, type D:\VIEW READ.ME (after you change to
  187. the installed program's drive and directory).
